LIBE 477- Final Vision Blog Post 1: Design Considerations

Final Vision Project Design Considerations

For my final vision project I am going to explore digital tools, online resources and ways to support integrating technology in the 21st century kindergarten classroom. There is a lot of information online about these topics, but not much is geared towards the kindergarten level. As a teacher who has taught kindergarten for a number of years, I understand how busy a class in this grade is. Students in kindergarten aren’t reading yet so resources also need to take this into consideration. The digital resources need to be easy to use with a smartboard or iPad, and not require a lot of time and effort to set up or use.

For a format to present this curation I have been thinking of a couple of different ideas. Since my school division uses Google G Suite there is the option to create a slideshow on Google, with a voice over narration or screencast. The learning curve for me here would be how to do a screencast, but luckily there are several good videos to help out. Here is one using screencast o matic.

I also considered creating a website with different pages or links for each type of digital resource- app, website, paid, or free. Making a website is completely outside of my comfort zone, but when we created a blog we made a website, so maybe not too difficult? I found step by step easy instructions with suggestions for web builder worksites on wikihow, which made things easy.

One other final option I was considering is to put the information into a book with the app Book Creator, which I found about from our fellow student, Kate, during one of our zoom class meetings. I like the creative options with this format, and it has a voice recording function as well so I could narrate my artifact.

I want my final project to be interesting and creative, but still be clear enough to be useful as an easy to access reference resource. Still thinking about it, but I’m leaning towards book creator I think just because of the creative aspects and how fun it looks!

  1. I love that you are catering your final assignment to an area of your teaching that is lacking (tech resources for kindies). This project is so great because we are able to create the tools that we need to become better educators. I agree with you that bookcreator seems like the best option. The graphics are fun, you can add music or voice overs, it pops and will catch young students eyes, and the site seems to be laid out in a (hopefully) easy way to follow! Goodluck!

  2. You have a strong idea here for your final project. I appreciate how you are connecting it to an area that you have seen a need. This is a great way to be responsive to your community. As you work, consider your plan for sharing with others, as well as a way they could contribute if possible. Could your artifact be a living document that could continue to grow over time? This blog may give you some good ideas as well - https://christinepinto.com/gafe-4-littles-pln/
Looking forward to seeing what you create!

  3. You've got lots of great ideas brewing Charmagne! Your post this week reminds me that we have so many options and opportunities for engaging in learning through technology, it can be hard to choose just one option. I've heard so much about Book Creator and a website would be great too. Ultimately, the students you are working with will benefit from this project :)
